Tired Ears

Dear WISY,

I have a problem that I need advice on. I have a friend who has been trying to advance in the industry and I swear nobody's drive beats hers. The problem is she is not very good.

Everytime she produces new material she asks my opinion and I try to find the best possible thing to say. I really want to tell her that she sounds like a dying cat and that she should leave the singing for someone who actually can. She writes beautiful material but when she delivers her writings I want to muzzle her face. She is a really nice friend and I am terrified that I will hurt her feelings. Please tell me how I should go about telling her the truth.

Thank you.

Signed,
Tired Ears

  1. Be honest with her about it. Point out her good qualities first and help her guide her in a direction that will benefit her.

  2. Lol at dying cat, but i think you should sit her down and let her know because it will hurt a lot less coming from u, tell her u think she should put more of her time into writing then singing. Trust me she feel better it coming from you than a total stranger.

  3. Well, lets see. If she is truly a strong songwriter, encourage her to continue on that path by continuously highlighting that as a strength. You don't even need to say she sucks vocally, just encourage her true talent.

On the other hand, if you have listened to the radio lately, you will understand that talent is optional. More than 1 "singer/rapper/etc" has been nominated or awarded a prestigious award for foolinesh.

Whatever you do, be mindful of your delivery so she don't syle you as a hater.
